Castello del Sole is a deluxe hotel set in beautiful parkland running along the Swiss shores of the stunning Lake Maggiore. In tune with its serene setting, the hotel aims to create for guests a total experience of harmony, tranquility, and oneness with nature.
Francesco Orelli built the romantic Castello del Sole in 1532. However, it was initially a refuge for Protestant believers in a Catholic area. Much later, in 1756, there is a reference to the architectural brilliance of the building.
Despite its architectural beauty, by the turn of the 19th century, they used it only as a simple wayside inn. However, in 1945 the Castello del Sole was purchased and remodeled. It provided food for the Swiss people after World War 2.
After that, the property began developing into an elite private hotel complex. Today, it is part of The Living Circle of exclusive luxury hotels. These themed properties promote the peacefulness and health-giving benefits of being in touch with the beauty of nature.
All the amenities are products of their natural eco-friendly brand based on rice, herbs, grapes, and wheat.
The hotel has an idyllic situation in Ascona, a town of Mediterranean color, style, and ambiance, beloved by artists, poets, and free-thinkers. The Castello del Sole beach complex sits in a vast and lovely parkland. Additionally, this property boasts 300 meters of private Lake Maggiore shoreline.
People call this part of the lake on the Swiss side Lake Locarno because of its closeness to the historic town of Locarno. Known mainly for its sunny climate, the old part of the town reaches back into antiquity. Easily accessible, there is also an airport shuttle for guests.
The family-friendly Castello del Sole is spread over three buildings that retain the original's architectural features, modernized to the highest comfort levels. The hotel is famous for its Swiss hospitality and the peace of its gracious surroundings.
Lush gardens, delightful courtyards, mountain and lake views, and pretty old fishers' houses. This is where walkers and all guests can enjoy the astounding natural scenic beauty while cosseting in their choice of first-class accommodation.
The hotel offers 31 rooms and 47 suites ranging over three buildings, each with its distinctive style and character. The rooms continue the relaxation theme for mind and body with a décor of soft tones and soothing pastels.
Beds, sofas, and chairs are plush and comfortable and lead to balconies with superb views. Bathrooms have tubs, and all rooms include an air-conditioner with a mini-bar, TV, and Wi-Fi.
The Junior Suites are spacious, with additional living room areas. Besides, you'll have access to luxury bathrooms, some with showers, superior in-room amenities, and gorgeous balcony views.
Junior Deluxe suites are located in the historic part of the complex. These have been more recently renovated in soft grey tones with a comfortable raised area and L-shaped soft sofas.
Pipplow service and polished parquet flooring add further touches of luxury.
These suites are located in the Retreat Pavilion and overlook the farm and a bird sanctuary. The spacious floor areas and natural light-filled rooms open onto expansive terraces to fully appreciate the landscape.
Beautifully appointed in every respect, the Mediterranean décor and terracotta floors add sunny warmth to a stay at the Castello del Sole aptly.
Bask in the luxury face and body treatments using grapeseed oil from the hotel's vineyard. Other VinoAqua and Vineasole-Cosmetica products are also available in the modern spa area. Steam bath, sauna, and whirlpool facilities are all in the spa experience. Moreover, use the outdoor or indoor heated swimming pools and jacuzzi.
A fully equipped gym is also on-site for hotel guests. For ultimate relaxation and luxury, the hotel offers a small spa with views of the park in complete privacy.
Weather permitting, guests can relax and enjoy drinks at the La Spiaggia Bar on Castello del Sole's private beach on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Locanda Barbarossa is the hotel's gourmet Michelin-starred restaurant. It serves a Mediterranean-inspired menu taken to another level by Chef Mattias Roock.
He created his cuisine following The Living Circle's philosophy using fresh seasonal produce from the farm, fruit and vegetables, rice, and pasta. There is a great wine list to accompany the dishes. The décor is light, with wall paintings echoing the outdoor landscape.
In summer, you can enjoy meals on the terrace. Ristorante Tre Stagioni starts each day with a breakfast buffet menu serving every morning dish and eggs cooked to order.
Ristorante Parco Saleggi offers guests the choice of eating lunch in the hotel park. Finally, bar Bassa Selim adds an exotic ambiance for an evening drink.
The park itself has numerous events for guests aside from idyllic walks. For instance, there are guided tours through the rice fields, vineyards, and orchards. Also, explore vegetable gardens where owners will explain and discuss processes and recipes. Golf and tennis facilities are available if the relaxed atmosphere has revived guests and more activity is needed.
Around the lake and surrounding countryside, paths and trails for hiking, running, Nordic walking, or cycling is for enthusiasts. The lake also offers opportunities to try or practice water sports like canoeing or paddleboarding.
Guests can take an excursion across the lake or shop in the Ticino region's historic towns for sheer enjoyment. A visit to a romantic castle is also possible.
Little ones can also have watersports lessons on Lake Maggiore or enjoy the hotel's kid's club. In addition, children can learn to make pizzas or go on organized treasure hunts. Besides, there are many other activities, and you can arrange babysitting services.
Castello del Sole benefits from a beautiful lakeside setting with its parkland, gardens, and private beach. The hotel provides exceptional hospitality and high standards of comfort. Peace and serenity pervade every complex part, making it a delightful restorative place for guests.
