Established in the late 16th century along the border area, the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois is beholding. Its elegant décor and historical aura set the stage. Moreover, it is one of the oldest city hotels that provides contemporary amenities like free Wi-Fi, pools, bars, lounges, and restaurants. With a mesmerizing view of the river Rhine, Les Trois Rois hotel is short of several tourist hotspots and positioned at the top trade route.
Furthermore, one of the most extraordinary personalities, Napoleon Bonaparte, resided in this haven. Here, he also arranged a hearty business lunch with the authority of Basel to discuss French-Swiss relations in 1797. Additionally, the resort has an intimate yet striking background, with guests returning for more. Moreover, among the hotels in Europe, Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios has one of the richest traditions.
On the bank of the Rhine, the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois has entertained numerous prominent figures with its exclusive hospitality over the years. These include Queen Elisabeth ll, Thomas Mann, and Pablo Picasso. It is a dormitory for the elite and the nobility. The hotel was laid down in 1681 when the first official record of the 'At the Three Kings' or 'Three Kings' was released at Blumenrain 8 in Basel.
Moreover, the Basel aristocracy hosts many family events and state receptions here. Personalities like traders, diplomats, and crowned heads, conquering the worlds of culture and science, also lodge here frequently. Charles Dickens, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Thomas Mann, and the Dalai Lama already stayed at the Grand Hotel Trois Rois.
In 1841 and 1842, Johann Jakob Senn, the wealthy tailor master, acquired the estate. She later demolished some parts to build the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, which the architect Amadeus Merian planned. Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois opened its doors to the public on 16th February 1844 and was run by different owners. However, in 1936, new directors were appointed, which marked the start of a glorious era.
Later, in 2004, the hotel underwent extensive renovations inspired by the national heritage. Finally, it opened again on 20th March 2006 with its luxurious infrastructure and a graceful, mystique façade that persists today.
The Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois is among the most popular hotels in Switzerland. It is in Basel City Center's heart. Here, you can discover Basel, the area, and the region's charm. It is also at the same spot in the middle ages where the ships docked at the salt tower. This ideal location allows quick access to numerous tourist sites as the haven is just five minutes away from the White and Blue House and the Pharmacy Museum Basel. It is also far from Marktplatz and Basel Town and connects to the locally famous convention center.
Moreover, its excellent location by the river brings in the saxophone sounds playing at the nearby bridge. It also provides a view of where the ships docked across the water. Furthermore, the property is a four-minute walk from the Rathaus and five minutes away from the Museum der Kulturen and National History Museum. Plus, it is just eight minutes on foot to Basel Minster.
Even with 101 rooms and suites, the hotel leaves guests feeling entirely at home. With the latest technology and a century-old tradition, each room has a beautiful décor. From spacious Suite Les Trois Rois to junior rooms, luxury and ultimate comfort are a constant. Moreover, each room has elegant furniture with art deco-style ornaments and plush bedding. There is also the Signature double room where Theodor Herzl stayed back in 1897.
The river-fronted rooms house small terraces. They offer spectacular river views and allow you to enjoy room service within the comfort of your four walls. Some suites also have scarlet Baroque-patterned wallpapers and bouquets of fresh roses. This leaves the room smelling pleasant all day long. Chopard clocks and gold-framed mirrors by faux cracks decorate the walls with non-alcoholic minibars available for guests to enjoy. Besides, the black marble bathrooms have bathtubs and rain showers.
Culinary is a serious matter at the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois; only the city's best restaurants serve here. The Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl is one of the dominating eateries. It ranked among the top 100 restaurants worldwide and was awarded three stars in the Michelin Guide and 19 Gault Millau points. With dishes of perfectly-balanced flavors, guests can indulge in a new world of colors and aromas.
Cheval Blanc also offers French haute cuisine influenced by the Asian and newly interpreted Mediterranean flavors. Two of the most famous choices are Kingfisher sashimi and deep-sea prawns. These are the size of a newborn kitten and a delicious lemon sauce. Another favorite is pigeons from Bresse seasoned with Moroccan spices and filled with lofty smoky notes.
At the Brasserie, Swiss and French brasserie specialties are prepared enthusiastically with locally sourced and fresh ingredients. Chez Donati stuns guests with its pure Italian cuisine, offering intense and wonderful culinary delights unlike anywhere else.
