This resort is all glamorous, and glitz, but its origins are simple. Donald Soffer, a prominent real estate developer, had envisioned a residential area with high-end amenities back in 1967. He purchased 785 acres of South Florida swamp land with the help of his father, Harry, and a group of investors. The first phase of Aventura Country Club's development was completed in 1970.

The JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa was renamed in 2000. Then, it featured two 18-hole courses, tennis courts, and a luxurious hotel.
