The Mandarin Oriental Geneva is a five-star luxury hotel alongside the River Rhone in Geneva, Switzerland. Part of the international group of Mandarin Oriental luxury hotels meets the same first-class hospitality and accommodation standards. However, you must know everything about this top-notch hotel before going there.
The first hotel constructed after World War 2, the Mandarin Oriental Geneva, opened in 1950 as 'Hotel du Rhone' to standards of luxury unique at that time.
Boosted by establishing of the European United Nations building in Geneva, the hotel rapidly became popular with business clientele, government officials, and even royals. As a result, the Mandarin Oriental group purchased the hotel in 2000.
Since construction, the Mandarin Oriental has undergone many refurbishments. These include a significant redesign by New Yorker Adam D Tihany in 2008. His innovative style retained some art deco and 1950s features, but the redesigned hotel became more contemporary.
Tihany and other fine designers introduced state-of-the-art technologies and modernized, expanded, and sleekly enhanced all the hotel areas.
The Mandarin Oriental Geneva benefits from an extraordinary situation in the heart of Geneva, overlooking the banks of the River Rhone and St Peter Cathedral. Above all, the serene beauty of Lake Geneva is within walking distance. The hotel is also close to the financial and diplomatic center. Besides, it is minutes from the Rue du Rhone, with many designer boutiques and high-end shopping.
Geneva Old Town retains its romantic character buildings with its cobbled streets, and many still know it for Swiss watches, jewelry, and delicious chocolate. You can easily reach the city by all methods of transport from major European cities and beyond. Besides, every major airline serves Geneva airport, which is very central to the town.
Tihany refurbished the hotel's public areas in a more modern style using luxurious silks, polished cherry wood, and other fine materials. However, the luxury still allows for a warmly welcoming tone and Mandarin Hotels' hospitality. Also, the front desk, reception, concierge, and all staff aim to maintain the Swiss hotel tradition of unbeatable service and luxury for all guests.
The 146 rooms and 35 suites were sympathetically restyled in 2013 by SM Design. Besides, they are spacious and elegant, with superb views of the fast-flowing river.
The furnishings are luxuriant but comfortable, with soft earthy tones and clean lines. Some suites are styled in plush purple with silky fabrics and have an extra bed. Also, there are rosy cushions, smart striped matting, and upholstered, deeply comfortable seating.
These have many additional features, including living or dining areas. Moreover, some have private balconies, river/mountain views, truly sumptuous marbled bathrooms, and separate shower rooms.
The Oriental Suite features a dining area for up to 10 guests, an expansive private terrace accessed from the elegant bedroom, and an open fireplace.
The marble bathroom also has a Turkish bath and massage room. Moreover, the Royal suite is exceptionally spacious with an en-suite and extra bedroom, bathrooms, dining/living area, and kitchenette. Other hotel features include a private elevator and guest powder room access.
The Penthouse is the latest addition, with every luxury and a fine view from a landscaped terrace. Also, there is a grand living room and an entertainment room.
The Mandarin Oriental provides exceptional business and conference facilities with spacious, highly comfortable rooms and lounges overlooking the Rhone River. Besides, conference rooms are sound-proofed for peace and privacy. A private welcome area is also available for some meeting rooms.

White décor and flower arrangements, superb food sourced from the freshest regional produce, and top-notch service can be arranged for wedding receptions. Celebrations and private functions are also catered for with the same high standards.
Modernizing the hotel included new concepts in dining with the addition of 2 stylish restaurants. Rasoi by Vineet is the glory of Geneva Mandarin Oriental with superb contemporary Indian menus from renowned chef Vineet Bhatia.
Dining here is enhanced by dramatic décor in deep crimson, slate grey, and black, with a granite-covered tandoor centerpiece completing the Indian-themed room. By contrast, Yakumanka is the hotel's Peruvian restaurant. It entails aqua blues and pastel colors around a wood and rope theme.
The style is an upscaled nod to Peruvian ceviche eateries. Thus, it covers traditional dishes reinvented by Peruvian Gaston Acurio and interpreted by top chef Cesar Bellido. The atmosphere here is more relaxed. Besides, diners can enjoy pre-meal drinks or great pisco (Peruvian brandy) cocktails at the bar.
This stylish and popular place has dark wood and rich deep blue carpeting. Open for long hours, day and evening. Guests can enjoy an exceptional bar menu, cocktails, and other drinks. You can take breakfast or coffee on the riverside terrace in fine weather.
The gym is fully equipped with multi-level fitness apparatus, available 24 hours daily. Separate changing areas, saunas, and Turkish baths are provided for men and women.
