Mandarin Oriental Munich

The Mandarin Oriental Munich is a 5-star luxury hotel in Munich's Bavarian state capital center. Once a grand 7-story opera house, the building was converted into the present elegant hotel in 1990.

Location

The Mandarin Oriental Munich has a quiet location in the old city (Altstadt) yet is on the brim of bustling modern Munich life. Besides, the Hofbrauhaus am Platzl beer hall and the fashionable Maximilianstrasse shopping district is just a stone's throw away.

This historic old city's heart also has many restaurants, bars, and clubs among the beautiful old buildings. Moreover, Marienplatz Square with the famous Glockenspiel clock, the State Opera House in Max-Joseph-Platz, and the former royal palace (Munich Residenz) are a few minutes away.

You will also see views of the Bavarian Alps from the towers of Munich Cathedral.

Transport

An integrated transport system of buses, trams, main-line, and underground trains with all-service tickets serves the city. A 10-minute ride on the train will take guests to the English Garden, Munich's largest park, or the central railway station for other destinations. Additionally, Munich International Airport is about 30 minutes from the city.

Style and Reception

The hotel retains the grandeur of the original opera house with eaves or high ceilings and columns and a curving staircase. But, overall, the style is contemporary and elegant.

The neo-Renaissance façade remains intact, and guests are greeted by liveried staff at the impressive entrance. The lobby and lounge welcome guests with deep carpeting and elegant seating in swirling gold and deep silver patterns.

The Mandarin Oriental group also strives to incorporate a sense of local character into their hotels, blended with the East's hints.

Munich Mandarin Oriental is no exception, with Biedermeier furniture and images by Felix Rehfeld and Asian influences in art pieces and flavors in restaurant menus. Moreover, reception, concierge, housekeeping, and butler services are first-class at all Mandarin Oriental hotels.

The Rooms

The Mandarin Oriental Munich is a boutique hotel with 48 guest rooms and 25 suites. Rooms feature neo-Biedermeier cherrywood furniture and Asian and local art pieces: parquet flooring, solid dove-gray, gold, and vivid turquoise colors with patterned oriental-style mats.

Moreover, deeply comfortable beds have crisp white linen and goose-down duvets. In-room amenities include sophisticated Bang and Olufsen entertainment systems. Long elegant drapes also surround large windows letting in natural light and giving views over the city. Furthermore, bathrooms are marbled and opulent.

The Suites

The open-plan suites have the same style features but additional space, plush sofa seating, lacquered desks, and cabinets.

Besides, some have terraces, and the rooms have city views. Moreover, black and white marble bathrooms have heated floors, double vanity units, a walk-in shower, stand-alone baths, and luxury toiletries.

Special Suites

Tower suites are located in a tower feature of the hotel and have circular sitting and dining rooms. The Bavaria tower suite has an unusual circular bedroom. The two-bedroom suite also has a vast skylight and curving windows draped in silk.

The Panoramic Suite has a wrap-around balcony and porcelain objets d'art. At the same time, the Presidential suite is multi-roomed with a terrace, an extensive glass-enclosed dining area, and a Bulthaup kitchen. Butler service is also available.

Dining

The newest star in the Mandarin Oriental firmament is the Japanese-Peruvian Matsuhisa Munich Restaurant. It serves up delectable Japanese Peruvian cuisines. In this dark and sophisticated eatery, culinary genius Nobu Matsuhisa delivers new-style menus centering on fresh seafood with unique dishes and traditional sushi. Guests can also experience a live cooking counter where chefs prepare Nobu's signature dishes, such as black cod and yellowtail sashimi jalapeno, for them. Bar attendants also mix specialist cocktails for guests.

Summer Terrace

This seasonal space offers guests a panoramic rooftop view of the city. In addition, it features the Munich Cathedral, a lap pool, and a fusion of Asian and Mediterranean food.

Potted plants, Asian statuettes, banquette seating, and a liberal scattering of jazzy cushions make this a warm-weather joy for hotel guests and local visitors.

The Lounge

Here guests can sit by the cozy fireplace in cool weather or socialize in comfortable chairs anytime. They can order coffee and light meals during the day. However, the lounge comes into its own for a traditional afternoon tea with delicious cakes.

Moreover, for stronger drinks, guests can try the Ory Bar. This is a gold and green space for enjoying exotic cocktails.

Spa and Fitness

You can arrange saunas, steam baths, and a range of beauty treatments and massages by the concierge services at the Amour Fou spa facility or as an in-room service.

Moreover, Mandarin Oriental Munich offers hairdressing, manicures, and pedicures. The gym is also open 24 hours, and personal trainers are available on request.

This wellness center boasts a kinesis wall, standard fitness equipment, and the latest exercise techniques. This apparatus uses weights and pulleys from an undulating wooden wall to work every muscle. Additionally, showers and a relaxation area are nearby the gyms.

Special Offers

The Mandarin Oriental Munich regularly offers increasingly popular staycationing packages or bed and breakfast (lavish) specials. Other offers may include short breaks with Matsuhisa dining or health and fitness days.

Other Services

The front desk is open 24/7, and staff can advise the city throughout the booking. Moreover, the hotel is kid-friendly and pet-friendly (fee applies). Besides, you can request additional beds, cribs, and babysitting services.

Business facilities are also available. Check-in is from 3 pm, and booking-out is until midnight, with other times by arrangement.

Oktoberfest

A traditional annual autumn festival celebrated in Bavaria since royal wedding celebrations in 1810. A considerable amount of beer is consumed, and many events are organized, bringing guests worldwide.

Takeaway

Munich is a lively, vibrant place with much to do and see. Furthermore, there is the added beauty of the Bavarian Alps beyond. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, with its central position and fine amenities, is the perfect accommodation for visitors to this historic city.
