Mandarin Oriental Tokyo

There's no destination to experience the epitome of contemporary luxury in Japan than the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. As it is the Tokyo branch of the famous Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, there's a large piece of Japanese culture.

There is an affinity for nature in every corner of this luxury hotel. However, one of the most intriguing attributes remains the oddly exciting spatially distorted feel and the interior's futuristic decor.

Overview

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo occupies the top nine floors of the Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower. This tower sits in the Nihonbashi district and is home to Tokyo's most original department stores. The district has the bustling Ginza as its neighbor and the Tokyo Station and Tokyo Stock Exchange a quick ride away.

On entering the hotel, there's an unmistakable nod to Japan's fascination for nature. Interior designer, Reiko Sudo's design of the tower is akin to that of a tree. Moreover, the ground floor entrance is decorated with richly textured motifs, wall coverings, and fabrics that conjure thoughts of tree roots.

Guests can take the high-speed lift to the Cesar Pelli-designed 38th-floor lobby. The view wows as it showcases the megalopolis's best angles. Standing in the center of the lobby gives a surreal view of the endless cityscape stretching out in all directions.

To the east, the check-in desk has a glass backdrop framing the Tokyo Skytree. To the west, another floor-to-ceiling window shows the Imperial Palace Gardens. Besides, there is Mount Fuji in the distance behind a vast urban skyline.

Just as a tower resembles a tree, the lobby resembles a tree's canopy. Besides, the exceptional attention-to-detail public spaces like bars and eateries signify the tree's branches, spreading out in the most ethereal way.

Rooms and Suites

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo boasts one of Japan's largest accommodations, with 157 guest rooms and 21 suites designed and perfectly equipped. Seven floors encompass these rooms and are only accessible via an exclusive elevator from the Sky Lobby.

Each room and suite has a spectacular view of Tokyo and its districts. In addition, guests can enjoy home-grown grapes from Osaka, a perfect fruity introduction. The rooms are elegantly decorated with wooden bedside tables and a large and supple king-size bed. Moreover, nature-themed fabrics cover the walls.

The sakura or cherry blossom motifs on the headboards further stress the general theme of the hotel. To experience more Japanese traditions, guests can find cotton yukatas with belts in polished boxes beside the bed.

Entertainment and communication are not lost, as each room has a wide LCD TV, wireless internet access, and sophisticated audiovisual equipment. Room service is available 24 hours.

Additionally, the bathrooms do not disappoint. You can close its glass wall backdrop with the push of a button for utmost privacy. The marble bathrooms also feature a walk-in shower with amber-like nozzles, a separate tub, and Bottega Veneta toiletries. An array of calming essential oils is also present in the bathrooms.

Dining

The resort has one of Japan's most extensive dining scenes. The hotel houses 12 restaurants, three of which are Michelin-starred.

Sushi Shin by Miyawaka serves nine guests and has the city's most stunning views below. The menu offers sushi made by traditional Edo-mae sushi chefs for an authentic sushi experience at "Sushi Shin by Miyakawa."

Besides, visit Signature for a classic French fine dining experience. It is a Cantonese restaurant that blends delicacy and sophistication when presenting dishes.

With just eight diners per seating, the Tapas Molecular Bar serves tapas and small dishes prepared using innovative cooking techniques, accompanied by a tasting menu to feed your quirkiest cuisine imagination.

Sense Tea Corner on the 37th floor has a separate corner known for pure and refined Chinese tea and pastries. To indulge in authentic Italian dining with a relaxed setting of wooden chairs, dark brown wooden walls, and cream ceilings, K'Shiki is the place to visit.

Another Italian restaurant aptly named The Pizza Bar serves up sizzling pizzas straight from the brick oven by their master pizza makers. Additionally, Ventaglio goes worldwide with international cuisine in a laid-back buffet style. Moreover, enjoy private lunch and dining of regional French and Cantonese cuisine at The Cellar.

Most of all, breakfast options are endless. The Oriental Lounge on the 38th floor prepares delectable breakfast, tea, and cocktails. Also, the Mandarin Bar offers a cocktail menu in a stylish and luxurious atmosphere. Besides, the brightly lit and furnished Gourmet Shop prepares exquisite delicacies like chocolates, cakes, and homemade bread.

Spa and Fitness

The spa at Mandarin Oriental will leave you with the utmost healing. Situated in a peaceful world, thirty-eight floors up with a one-way window looking through the buzz of office workers, you cannot miss this spa.

Expert therapists attend to guests in the four treatment rooms and five private spa suites, offering the best Asian and Western treatments and care. The heat and pool bathing treatments also aim to relieve the mind and heal the body.

There's also a steam room for a revitalizing and meditative experience. Also, there is an ice fountain to refresh you and securely lock in the treatment products.

The hotel also houses a fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment. The glass floor-to-ceiling walls surround all the corners of the gym, offering panoramic views almost everywhere. This image makes working out seem like a breeze, as you'll have the most incredible sights to distract you from fatigue.

Alternatively, you can watch LCD consoles in each cardio machine for personal entertainment. Moreover, the consoles come with 12 language options.

Takeaway

In Tokyo, Mandarin Oriental Tokyo ensures guests are given the highest level of comfort, luxury, and safety. The views, top-notch facilities, services, and excellent meals make this resort a cut above the rest.

There is no place like home; however, this resort proves otherwise. With the luxury amenities and leisure activities you can experience here, you will not have time to miss the things left behind.
