The hotel sits on 35 acres with beautifully landscaped gardens. There is also a birch forest and Lake Massawippi close to North Hatley.
Besides, the Manor Hovey is just 75 minutes from Montreal on the scenic Routes des Vins. This country house was built in 1899. It is inspired by George Washington's Mount Vernon home. It combines old-world charm with modern comforts and luxury.
Additionally, the hotel appeals to those who want a simple living. It is a country home on a lake with great food and fresh air. This charming setting offers the hotel 37 elegantly designed suites and rooms with lake views. Besides refined dining, Le Hatley Restaurant offers fine dining cuisine.
Le Tap Room offers a casual bistro atmosphere in a warm setting. It also has a beautiful summer terrace. They call it the land of maple leaves, with its stunning autumn colors. These include facials, massages, and other treatments.
Manoir Hovey lies on the shores of Lake Massawippi. It is just a few minutes away from North Hatley. This charming village is in the Eastern Townships. Moreover, the landscapes are meadows, rivers, and lakes. This region is the perfect place to discover the beauty of the province. The hotel is on a private beach in an area where you can go shopping. It is in an area of Québec that is close to the United States.
Many of the earliest settlers in North Hatley were United Empire Loyalists. They were primarily farmers who had moved from New England following the 1776 Declaration of Independence. There are still many fine farms from that period in the village. The Hovey Manor was named after Captain Ebenezer Hovey. He received a large parcel of land at the lake's edge from the British Crown in 1785.
North Hatley's architectural riches are mainly due to its first vacationers. They were aristocrats as well as industrialists and landowners from the South. They chose to move further north to escape New England and enjoy the comforts of home. Henry Atkinson built "The Birches." This is a massive estate with servants' quarters and a golf course. He was also the Atlanta power grid owner. The architecture was inspired by George Washington's Mount Vernon, Virginia house with large verandas.
The Atkinson family left North Hatley in 1940. After several changes of ownership, their home became a famous inn. Robert Brown, a Montrealer, purchased it in 1950. Later, Stephen Stafford and Kathryn Stafford purchased the inn from Cornell in 1979. They preserved the unique ambiance and character of the inn. The 36 rooms in the Manor today are divided into quarters. There is the main house and the staff house. There is also the cooler and the pumping station. Besides, many antiques have been incorporated into the Manor.
Each of the 36 guest rooms or suites has a view of the lake. They offer comfort in classic and contemporary decor styles. Besides, all rooms have a Nespresso coffee machine, dressing gowns, and L'Occitane bath products. The majority of rooms have a goose-down bed and a combination fireplace. There is also a private balcony and whirlpool tub. And all rooms have high-speed internet, and the entire property is accessible. There are also many activities available for free on the property. Room upgrades are also possible.
Restaurant Le Hatley reflects the Chef's love for the region and its history. Alexandre Vachon's Franco-Canadian heritage inspires him to create refined, natural cuisine. According to the Chef, "The origin of the products is important." Therefore, the ingredients are an integral part of the dishes. The Chef's culinary philosophy is to celebrate the bounty of elements found within the region's rivers, forests, lakes, and fields.
Manoir Hovey is also home to a large number of birch tree trees. This makes it ideal for the production of birch syrup or vinegar. This is a unique practice that Hatley is the only Canadian restaurant to engage in. A sustainable approach requires daily attention from the Chef and his staff. Respect for each season's unique flavors is vital for the menus.
Le Tap Room is a Bistro featuring seasonal and local flavors. It welcomes you year-round in a friendly and casual atmosphere. You can choose from simple or sophisticated dishes. There are also snacks and pub options such as Abenaki poutine. Besides, there is a terrace overlooking the lake and English gardens. You can also relax inside the restaurant by admiring the warm decor and the fireplace.
A relaxing massage is the best way for stress to go. Manoir Hovey offers a range of services for massage therapy. From traditional massages to more sophisticated treatments like lymphatic drainage or reflexology.
