The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is a historic oceanfront hotel located on the Big Island of Hawaii. It opened in 1965 and is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island. The hotel also sits on a beautiful beach with stunning ocean views. Plus, it offers a variety of amenities. These include a swimming pool, a spa, a fitness center, and a golf course. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Hawaii.
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, founded in 1965 by Laurence Rockefeller, was considered the most luxurious and costly resort. It is still standing decades later, a luxury landmark along the Big Island's Kohala Coast.
However, the Mauna Kea Resort reduced its room inventory from 310 rooms to 252. In addition, the rooms at the south end were rearranged to offer more space and have larger bathrooms. But, the design of all rooms retains the Big Island tradition. Besides, sensational tastes, new sounds, smells, and sights enhance the dining experience. In addition, Rees Jones updated the Mauna Kea Golf Course to meet current USGA play standards.
Since opening as Hawaii Island's first luxury resort in 1965, the 60-acre property has welcomed generations of visitors. These idyllic beaches are ideal for relaxing, unwinding, and enjoying the beautiful ocean with friends and family. You can also play a round on the championship golf course and tennis on the suite's seaside courts. Or explore the extensive Pacific Rim art and artifacts collection. Moreover, each suite and guest room has a balcony or a view of the ocean or golf course. These rooms are elegant with modern connectivity design and comfort.
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel Autograph Collection sits on the hillside in a crescent-shaped area of the Kohala Coast. You can also see the water from almost all the hotel's ocean-side locations. This includes the gardens, walkways, and restaurants. A public beach nearly covers the property's length. Landscaped hills that reinforce a sense of privacy surround both ends. Besides, the Plumeria section opens onto the green lawn next to the beach.
The property was named for the proximity of Mauna Kea volcano peak. This is the highest point on the Hawaiian Islands. Also, the hotel is closer to Waimea and Waikoloa than Kailua-Kona. You can reach there by Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway Route 19.
The rooms are bright and modern with modern patterns. This gives them a modern island vibe. There are 252 guest rooms in the Tower and Beachfront Wings. Modern amenities such as desks, sitting areas, and flat-screen TVs will also be found. Plus, private furnished balconies with beautiful ocean views are also standard.
The bathrooms in the Executive and Deluxe rooms are also spacious. They have a rainfall shower and large bathtub, and a private balcony. The Plumeria rooms are popular because of their central location and the proximity to connecting suites. But, they have smaller bathrooms but more comfortable tub/shower combos. You will also find hairdryers, toiletries, slippers, and bathrobes.
You'll find a breakfast buffet at Manta, the main restaurant. It also serves excellent steaks and seafood at dinner. Moreover, the pool and copper bars are great for light lunches and cocktails. Hau Tree has a variety of drinks. These include historical favorites like the Ovaltine Froth. You can also enjoy drinks at the bar at the clubhouse.
Start your day with a delicious breakfast buffet. Enjoy pastries, tropical fruit and juices, waffles made to order, and more. Moreover, the atmosphere changes when the sun sets. In Manta's open-air exhibition kitchen, chefs create culinary delights. In addition, check the calendar for yearly live entertainment.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays, a live jazz band from the area performs. The bar staff enhances every evening with a selection of award-winning wines. And don't forget Sunday Brunch at Manta. This is a long-standing tradition on Hawai'i Island. Families and visitors gather to enjoy an abundant buffet and stunning views of Kauna'oa Bay.
Enjoy tapas, entrees, and cocktails made with local ingredients. There are also cocktails by Copper mixologists. These pair with the views at lunch and dinner.
Copper Bar honors its rich history while creating new traditions. It's a favorite gathering spot on the Kohala Coast. Relax with a Mauna Kea Mule, a handcrafted cocktail that captures the ocean views that have drawn travelers for generations.
For a casual dining experience, walk to the Hau Tree restaurant and bar. They offer sandwiches, salads, wraps, as well cocktails. Hau Tree is open for sit-down lunches or relaxed dinners on Hawaii's Big Island. Moreover, the bar is a gazebo-style structure. It allows you to enjoy cocktails while waiting for the flash of the sunset.
In a casual atmosphere, the clubhouse number 3 restaurant serves island cuisine. You can find everything for those looking for a great lunch with family and anyone hungry. Enjoy grass-fed burgers, fish tacos, cold beers, and frozen fruit smoothies. Signature cocktails are also available.
Bocce Ball is also a great game. Two new Bocce courts have been added to Number 3. You'll love this game that's fun for all ages. But, wear casual resort attire (cover-ups and footwear).
The 18-hole championship golf course at Hawaii's Mauna Kea Golf Resort has been a landmark in Hawaii golf. Robert Trent Jones Sr. created the lush fairways on a once barren black volcanic field. Today, they tumble along seaside cliffs offering breathtaking ocean and coastline views. A dramatic third hole over-the-ocean guarantees a memorable day of play.
The hotel offers almost unlimited recreation options for visiting guests. You will find new ways to make your stay more memorable. Play world-class golf at Mauna Kea or Hapuna. You can also play tennis on 11 seaside courts and enjoy some cultural experiences.
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is one of the most popular hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii. Located on the Kohala Coast, the hotel overlooks the beautiful white sand beaches and crystal blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Hawaiian sunshine.
