There are many people at Primland with an abiding respect for the land, who know the sounds and smells of the forest so intimately, they will open your eyes to the simple pleasure of a mountain getaway at this refined East Coast vacation resort. They will show you the subtleties of nature and reacquaint you with the restorative powers of silence. Your server will remember just how you take your drink, your children's names and that you like a freshly baked cookie after lunch. You will sense the love your wilderness guide has for the mountain and all its creatures, and the depth of his expertise. You will always find a kind word, authentic humor and an open heart.
It was the vision of Primland's founder, Didier Primat, to create a place of immense beauty that offers his guests a return to simple human pleasures in an environment of refined authenticity and sensuality. He developed Primland in an eco-conscious and thoughtful manner, as the ultimate retreat for world-class golf, refined dining and outdoor activities. Their love of the land is expressed in the extensive efforts to minimize the impact on nature, the freshness of the food, the many organic, sustainable ingredients they source locally or grow in the organic garden and the care with which they look after their guests.
Didier Primat instilled his passion for Primland in every member of his family and staff , and they carry forward his legacy with soul, with heart and with a commitment to genuine hospitality. Art is an important part of the Primland experience. They consider hospitality to be an art that involves sharing emotion and pleasure through attention to even the most subtle detail. They also feel that surrounding you with inspired pieces of art enhances your experience. Throughout The Lodge, you will find hand-selected works by American artists as well as authentic and rare Aboriginal paintings from the most remote Australian territories.
From horseback riding through first growth forests to fly fishing in crystal streams, Primland Resort is an all-season outdoor wonderland begging to be explored. Climb its mountains, putt its greens and seek out its wild inhabitants, all the while reveling in nature at its finest.
Tucked into infinitely private settings at the Sporting Club, 11 Rustic Mountain Homes offer blissful solitude and the rugged back-to-nature romance of the Blue Ridge Plateau in comfort. Accommodating from 2 to 22 guests, each has its own unique layout and ambience, but every one offers beautiful views, spacious living areas and the chance to reconnect with your natural surroundings. Step into your own adventure and experience the serenity of the wilderness, while enjoying wraparound decks, outdoor hot tubs, stone fireplaces and rolling lawns. Accessible homes available.
Consummately private, elegantly appointed, and all with exceptional views, Primland's varied accommodation options reflect the 12,000-acre estate's abundance of space. From the upper floors of the Lodge, with its fine-dining restaurant, serene spa and observatory tower, luxurious rooms and suites overlook the golf course and the Blue Ridge Mountains rolling to the horizon. Or choose a suite in one of the free-standing Pinnacle or Fairway Cottages, also ideal for booking in their entirety when traveling with family or friends. Quite possibly the most romantic spaces on the property are the three designer Treehouses, perched on the lip of the Dan River Gorge. And then there are the rustic Mountain Homes, accommodating from two to 22 guests in the utmost secluded, back-to-nature comfort.
Elegance and style meet premium comfort in the Lodge, which offers easy access to both Elements and the 19th Pub, as well as the Auberge Spa, fitness center, observatory, theater, games room and golf course. Pause in the soaring Great Hall with its twin fireplaces and linger in the two-story wine room, but it won't be long before you choose to slip away to your own private Primland paradise. Here, in your Mountain Room, Blue Ridge Suite or the sumptuous Presidential Suite, world-class amenities await, including private balconies, deep soaking tubs, and 400-thread count Frette sheets to make you feel right at home.
Named after the famous Pinnacles of Dan, four gracious, chalet-like cottages each offer accommodation for up to 12 people with birds-eye views of the valley below. Don't let the word 'cottage' mislead you, however. While charming, these generously-proportioned, two-story abodes are stylish eyries with serene interiors and space to spare. Each cottage boasts two inviting living areas arranged around open stone fireplaces (one on each level), two large Dan River Suites opening onto expansive private decks, and two Cedar Bluff Rooms with their own private balconies. Book an entire cottage to keep your group together during your stay. Accessible rooms are available.
Located along the golf course with stunning jade and sapphire-hued mountain views, three unique cottages each offer hardwood floors, cathedral ceilings and cozy living areas with Tennessee fieldstone fireplaces. Wooden decks are ideal for alfresco dining, while spacious apartments are offered in east and west wings - catching the light at sunrise and sunset respectively. Each cottage boasts a unique layout, with Sparrow and Woodpecker accommodating four guests and Cardinal up to eight. Book both wings to keep small groups or families together.
Perched in the treetops high above the Dan River Gorge, Primland's three intimate Treehouses offer sweeping views of the majestic Kibler Valley from their king-size beds, sumptuous bathrooms and magnificent wooden decks. Situated a short drive from the Lodge, each offers unrivaled privacy for just two guests in the literal embrace of one or more giant trees. A signature Primland experience, staying in Barn Owl, Cooper's Hawk or Golden Eagle offers all the freedom of a bird on the wing, and all the cosseting luxury of the most finely feathered nest.
Showcasing the freshest organic produce grown in Primland's own gardens or sourced locally, the resort's menus delight the most discerning of diners while remaining refreshingly down to earth. Experience elegant fine dining in the Lodge at Elements, informal eating and imbibing at the 19th Pub, or follow forested trails to Stables Saloon and Woodland Grill – casually atmospheric eateries in scenic settings. Whether savoring potato and truffle gnocchi with ocean-fresh scallops or tucking into a delectable grass-fed beef burger with an ice-cold beer, dining at Primland promises a gastronomic journey for all the senses.
Through expansive glass windows and doors, Primland's rolling fairways, forests and mountain views could easily distract if the cuisine at Elements did not command your full attention. Impeccably plated and graciously served, only the finest of seasonal ingredients are artfully combined in nuanced dishes celebrating land and sea. As the morning sun gilds the restaurant's wooden floors, fuel up on goat cheese frittata, buttermilk pancakes or farm eggs with local bacon. At night, as the central fireplace glows, choose from prime cuts, fish and delectable vegetarian dishes.
Pub dinner at 19th Pub, Primland Resort - With its outdoor terrace, well-stocked bar and hearty pub fare, this convivial dining spot is always full of camaraderie and good cheer. Open from late morning until late in the evening, it's ideal for refueling between holes, recounting adventures from the trails and planning your next day's itinerary. The international menu has something for everyone, from smoked duck sliders to the Pig Candy Club, featuring Primland's thick-cut, maple-syrup-and-cayenne-coated bacon. Get a taste of the region's rich bootlegging history with home-brewed moonshine inspiring a range of happy hour cocktails.
Stables Saloon - Climb the stairs to the secluded second floor of Primland's former horse stables and discover traditional Southern food and music at its very best. Available year-round for private parties and events, the rustic Stables Saloon regularly hosts live bluegrass music concerts and is part of the Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail. On Friday and Saturday evenings, as the strains of a lively banjo drift towards the sunset, feast on barbecued beef brisket, buttermilk fried chicken, smoked pork shoulder, roasted corn and more. The laid back vibe will have you never wanting to leave.
Woodland Grill - Skipped breakfast for a dawn tee off? In a picture postcard setting at the Outdoor Activities Center, this casual grab-and-go eatery offers a delicious selection of pre-made sandwiches along with tasty flatbreads, burgers, salads and soups. Eat smoked pork flatbread with red onions, Virginia cheddar and jalapeños right there while watching the world go by, or tuck a smoky pheasant roll in your backpack for a well-deserved pitstop on your hike or trail ride. As always at Primland Resort, vegans and vegetarians are as spoilt for choice as the meat lovers.
In-Room Dining - With their breathtaking views and abundance of space, choosing to dine in the comfort of your room, suite, cottage or treehouse is not the lazy option – in fact it's highly recommended. Enjoy breakfast in bed or out on your private deck with a range of options – from açai bowls to freshly baked bagels – served until 11am. The extensive in-room dining menu also features a delicious selection of hot and cold appetizers, sandwiches, sides and snacks, not to mention indulgent desserts, available between 11am and 11pm. Every dish is presented with as much care and finesse as Primland Resort's restaurant fare, ensuring that in-room dining is just as memorable.
Schlumberger Wine Cellar - Plan your private get-together in the new Schlumberger Wine Cellar, located in The Lodge. This intimate and stunning space features varietals from the world's finest vineyards, including the sister property, Domaines Schlumberger in France's Alsace region. Seating up to 10 guests, the cellar is the perfect place for a celebratory dinner, group wine tasting, executive cocktail hour, and more. Whatever the occasion, this new Primland experience is not to be missed.
Your Gateway to Adventure - Revel in the absolute freedom of an unspoiled wilderness, whether exploring countless trails on foot, mountain bike or horseback, playing golf, or simply soaking in the beauty of this outdoor wonderland. At Primland activities abound, offering an experience of nature at its finest no matter the season. Some experiences are complimentary and some require additional payment. Please inquire with Guest Services about costs at time of booking.
Relax and unwind in nature's soul-soothing embrace - At Primland Resort, wellness reaches beyond the Spa and connects to the beauty and elements of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nature hikes, forest bathing, meditation and yoga complement a dedicated wellness menu that uses local ingredients to promote detoxification, healing, immune response and overall well-being. The indoor swimming pool and hot tub overlook Primland's magnificent grounds, and fitness options range from a fully equipped gym to yoga and tennis.
Showcasing breathtaking mountain views at every turn, The Highland Course at Primland melds seamlessly with the natural landscape to offer players of all skill levels the challenge they desire. Opened in 2006 by renowned golf course architect, Donald Steel, the 18-hole, Audubon-certified all bentgrass greens course is impeccably maintained, with its multiple tees as finely manicured as its greens. Recently ranked by Golf Digest as one of "America's 100 Greatest Public Courses," the course presents fresh perspectives every time, compelling repeat rounds to master its challenges and appreciate its beauty afresh.
