The Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome Berlin is a London-based Rocco Forte group of 5-star luxury European hotels in Berlin. Furthermore, its central position in a historic bank building in the heart of Berlin makes it an ideal choice for visitors to the Capital.
The hotel sits on the Bebelplatz, a beautiful square off the Boulevard Unter den Linden's south side in Berlin's heart. Besides, it's a perfect location for touring the city. It is close to the State Opera House, the copper-domed St Hedwig's Catholic Cathedral, and Humboldt University.
A newly opened concert hall, the Pierre Boulez, is also nearby. Other famous sites include the Berliner Dom (the Capital's Protestant cathedral) and the historic Reichstag government building. There is also the Brandenburger Gate and the former East-West Checkpoint Charlie crossover point.
Hotel de Rome, a Rocco Forte Hotel, was purchased and converted by the Rocco Forte group from the Dresdner Bank's former headquarters, built in 1898. This opulent building caused controversy in the austere days of East Berlin's control under the DDR. However, it was spared demolition, and parts boarded over instead.
This preserved the ornate columned stone façade, moldings, and mosaic floors, now restored in significant renovations. Moreover, the modern décor retains the original building's elegance and luxury blended with modern German style.
Hotel de Roma opened its doors to the public in 2006. It has since received many awards and accolades from the tourist industry.
Guests are welcome at a leather-encased front desk in an impressive reception area. It entails black velvet seating and an Olivia Steele pink neon birdcage. Moreover, the staff aims to blend efficiency with warmth and friendliness.
Top-notch concierge facilities are also available, particularly for opera buffs wanting the best seats at the State Opera House.
Classic, Deluxe, and Superior Deluxe. The hotel is compact, with 108 splendidly appointed rooms reached via high-ceilinged corridors in muted color tones, stripes, patterns, and fine artwork. The resort also preserves the original bank staircase.
The rooms also retain the bank's high ceilings and are lavishly furnished, blending history with modern design amenities. The décor entails clean lines and soft beige tones with touches of coral and blue.
Delicate fabrics and wood feature in the sound-proofed rooms with comfortable hypoallergenic bedding and exceptionally luxurious marble and heated mosaic floor bathrooms.
Executive, Deluxe, Historic, Terrace, and Junior. Formerly Dresdner Bank offices, the 37 spacious suites are lavishly appointed with sumptuous fabrics and furnishings, generous in-room extras, and intensely comfortable king-size beds. A vibrant palette of colors in the artwork picks out a sophisticated design with subtle tones.
Balconies or terraces overlook the beautiful architecture of the Bebelplaze. The Gutman Deluxe is rich in wooden floors, paneling with leather-padded doors, and ruby and silvery-toned décor. This suite also has the unique feature of World War 2 shrapnel damage embedded in the old wood panels.
Each suite offers individual features, from luxurious to genuinely opulent. The marble bathrooms reflect the same standard with deep baths, glass cubicle showers, and designer skincare products. Several additional complimentary services are here for guests choosing the suites.
La Banca is the hotel's Italian a la carte restaurant on the ground floor. Here authentic Italian/Sicilian cuisine is creatively interpreted in Berlin style by a team inspired by Michelin-starred chef Flavio Pierangelini. The enclosed courtyard garden is delightfully echoed in the golden-brown and olive décor of the main dining room, enhanced by Berlin artists' sculptures and artwork.
You can enjoy cocktails on the rooftop terrace, which opens onto wide-sweeping city views. The signature cocktail to order is Violet Royal – champagne and hints of lavender. Guests can also enjoy breakfast here.
A vast array of breakfast dishes awaits with granolas, cold meats and fish, local cheeses, freshly-squeezed juices, waffles, and pancakes on the menu. In-room breakfasts or other meals are likewise available.
A very English-style tea is served afternoons in the Opera Court, once the Dresdner Bank lobby. The original stucco ceiling with oak paneled walls is still present. For an alcoholic drink, La Banca Bar also serves imaginative and classic cocktails in a darkly elegant space.
The underground level reveals an astonishing transformation of the bank's jewel vault into a magnificent swimming pool, reinventing the money vault as a manicure parlor. Spa facilities also include a sauna, steam room, and a range of quality wellness treatments.
Facials, massages, and body treatments employ state-of-the-art equipment and skills using a range of Forte Organics beauty products. A fully equipped gym and fitness center are also available for guests and visitors.
The building's old banking hall converts into a gorgeous ballroom fit for the finest wedding reception or grand event. It is romantic and functional, with 10-meter high ceilings, glittering chandeliers, a vast glass skylight, and beautiful old mosaic floors. The hotel also has five meeting rooms for business visitors, all with natural lighting and conference facilities.
Children are warmly welcome at the Hotel de Roma. This hotel is where much thought and attention has been given to planning a happy stay for young guests. Splash time at the pool is one of the most popular activities and a fun time testing out products and treatments at the spa.
Little ones can end their day cuddling up to Eugen, the Bear, and sharing milk and cookies. Movies and games are available for older kids, and exceptional concierge service can help set up creative art workshops. 'Kids portion' meals are in the dining areas.
