Six Senses Bhutan

Six Senses Bhutan is located within the amazing Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan, known for its rich diversity of flora and fauna, omnipresent spirituality, and colorful culture. Geographically, Bhutan descends from the highest Himalayas, which exceeds 33,000 feet (7,000 meters) in height, to the south's plains at an altitude of just 1,000 feet (300 meters). To the north lies Tibet, while to the west, south, and east sit India. Through this dramatically descending landscape, the rivers run from north to south, and over the years, they have forged deep valleys and ravines separated by lofty ridges and mountain passes. Each of these valleys has a unique scenic beauty unto itself, and it is these valleys provide the opportunity for an enchanted journey through the Kingdom.

The western and central valleys of Bhutan are the sites for homes, the Six Senses lodges. Throughout these valleys, collectively referred to as Six Senses Bhutan, are five lodges, each with its own character, environment, and experiences.

Guests may visit one of the lodges or, to have the best experiences that Bhutan offers, tailor-made journey can be planned that will include a combination of the lodges located in Thimphu Punakha, Gangtey, Bumthang, and Paro. The lodges range in size and facilities. However, focus embraces the Six Senses guiding principles, including the spa, wellness, healthy eating, comfort in sleep, and a journey of self-discovery within Bhutan's beauty of spirituality, culture, and nature.

At an altitude of 7,710 feet (2,350 meters), Thimphu lies in a steep valley surrounded by richly forested mountains dotted with ancient monasteries and Lhakhang (temples) to this day remains the world's only national capital without traffic lights. The town is built up from the Thimphu Chhu (River) and is centered on the quaint clock tower and its surrounding lanes of shops, fruit and vegetable markets, and assorted local restaurants. Thimphu is the largest center in Bhutan, with a population of about 100,000 and expanding rapidly.
Situated within beautiful apple orchards to the north and young pine forests to the south, The Thimphu lodge is strategically perched on the valley hillside due south of the town at an elevation of 8,695 feet (2,650 meters). Spectacular views reward the property overlooking Thimphu Valley and across to the 170 foot (52 meters) high giant Buddha. This location provides a comfortable escape from the Kingdom's bustling capital, yet close enough to access many attractions easily. This Thimphu lodge, with its grand design and lobby reflecting ponds, has been named Palace in the Sky.

When to visit Six Senses Bhutan

With temperate weather, Bhutan is an ideal year-round destination. March to April and September to November offer pleasant weather for hiking and trekking. May to August presents lush landscapes with blooming flowers and vegetation. December to February brings sunny days and clear mountain views.

How to get to Six Senses Bhutan

Flights to Paro Airport (PBH) are available from Bangkok, Singapore, Kathmandu, Dhaka and New Delhi, served by Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines. While visiting Bhutan, all foreign tourists must be accompanied by a licensed guide at all times. Restricted areas require permits applied through the immigration office in Thimphu. Checkpoints are located at road junctions throughout the country and independent traveling by foreign tourists (except for citizens of India, Bangladesh and Maldives) is strictly prohibited.

Journeys

Positioned like gemstones throughout the Kingdom's western and central valleys are five unique lodges, collectively referred to as Six Senses Bhutan. Each offers its own character, environment and experiences, yet together they can be crafted into one enchanting journey through the beauty, spirituality and culture of the Happiest Place on Earth.

You may visit a single lodge or, if you're curious about everything that Bhutan has to offer, tailor-made journey can be planned that will include a combination of Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, Bumthang and Paro. The properties range in size and facilities, however the focus embraces the Six Senses guiding principles which include the pioneering spa and wellness offering, wholesome and sustainable cuisine, sleep health and self-discovery.

Lodges

Spacious villas and suites with a different view at every turn. The five Six Senses Bhutan lodges have been thoughtfully designed to fully immerse travelers in the Kingdom of Bhutan's natural beauty and culture, offering a contemporary take on traditional Bhutanese architecture and form. The lodges, which vary in style from valley to valley, showcase the diversity and special character of each location.

Seasonally-inspired cuisine

A truly delicious journey is about getting a deep flavor of the local environment and traditions. That's why the culinary and mixology teams draw inspiration from local herbs and plants, crafting nutritious and tasty menus and cocktails (try the butterfly-pea flower daquiris).

Namkha - Bhutanese and International Cuisine - Representing sky in Dzongkha, Namkha's high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows and views of Himalayan peaks in the distance create an elegant backdrop for dining no matter what the season. The restaurant offers indoor seating for 60 guests, outdoor seating for 16 guests and a private dining room for intimate gatherings of up to 10 guests.

Local and organic - Namkha excels in healthy cuisine with an emphasis on local ingredients picked fresh from the lodge's own organic gardens. The menu features an eclectic menu of Asian and International specialties plus authentic Bhutanese dishes such as momos dumplings with a fiery ezay sauce.

Lungsigang Afternoon Tea - Lungsigang overlooks the property with breathtaking views of the entire Thimphu valley below. Hike a short distance uphill from the lodge and enjoy afternoon tea and snacks with traditional flavors, prayer flags and pine trees. Six Senses Spa Thimphu

The Bhutanese believe that happiness is the result of good health. Typically, a person is considered healthy if there is no heat or pain in the body and no sorrow in the mind. The wellness experiences focus on bringing the body into balance, boosting the immune system and helping to open the mind and expand consciousness to aid spiritual healing. A combination of massage and relaxation therapies, yoga and meditation programs as well as fitness facilities that include heated pools, gyms, hot stone baths and a sauna are available, helping to promote happiness and well-being. Each lodge offers its own treatments, ensuring the path to wellness is as varied as the journey itself.

Smart tech that's all about you - Not following any fads. This is about combining the smart tech (and super smart experts!) with knowing all about you to personalize a spa treatment or design a program to your needs (and your desire to stay horizontal or incorporate some get up and go).

Experiences

Unrivaled natural beauty, spirituality and cultural pursuits. With endless hiking and biking trails, ancient traditions still intact and impressive architectural marvels to explore, there is something for every traveler to Bhutan.
