Sol y Luna

Sol y Luna is a luxurious hotel in the heart of Peru's Sacred Valley. Its stunning architecture and breathtaking views make it the perfect place to escape everyday life. This review will examine what makes Sol y Luna a particular place and why you should consider it for your next getaway.

Overview

Sol y Luna in the Sacred Valley was established in 1996 when the founders, Franz and Petit, arrived in the Sacred Valley. Sol & Luna is home to over 100 people who share a common philosophy: respecting the environment and local culture.

The Urubamba Valley was once a sacred area that was revered by the ancients. Today, it is a beautiful environment that Sol & Luna respect. The area was used to build buildings that were harmonious with the surroundings. This allows visitors to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape at each of the four cardinal points. Guests also share their daily lives in the Sacred Valley's enchanting oasis. Besides, you can explore the area on a Peruvian Paso Horse and guided horse rides.

The hotel sits in Urubamba at 8850 ft, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Moreover, it is just minutes from archaeological sites, such as Pisac (Moray), Ollantaytambo, and Chinchero.

Location

Sol y Luna is down a narrow lane near Urubamba, the "capital of the Sacred Valley." Nearby, you will find several Inca ruins and the train to Aguas Calientes (for Machu Picchu).

Residents of remote villages in the highlands trace their ancestry back through Tahuantinsuyu, or the Land of the Four Quarters, to the Inca Empire, founded between the 13th and 16th centuries. This naturally fertile valley has been the region's breadbasket throughout history. It continues to be a significant inspiration for contemporary Peruvian food. The Sacred Valley is a beautiful spot for trekking, tandem paragliding, and mountain biking. You can also enjoy horseback riding, kayaking, and quad-bike tours.

The Sacred Valley's culture revolves around Ayni, an Andean word that means reciprocity in Quechua. This conveys the idea that progress is a collective goal. The Incas developed a sophisticated civilization and a highly evolved belief system through cooperation. This blend of the spiritual and the practical is evident throughout Valle Sagrado.

The Founder

Marie Helene Miribel is her name, but most people call her Petit. She followed her heart and left a secure corporate life to join the Sacred Valley of Incas. Her dream was to improve the lives of some of the poorest children in the world. Franz was her perfect match. Franz had the gift to realize her wildest dreams and had many ideas for educating them.

They began an education project in 1999 for the children of the area. Many of these children walked hours daily to get to school, some even walking for miles. Understanding the real world of Sacred Valley's schools and families as possible by working within the existing socio-economic fabric. Therefore, they built a hotel to help support education.

Accommodations

There are 43 casitas within three categories. Some have living quarters and open fires. The casitas also come with a private patio and an outdoor whirlpool. Besides, they all have private terraces. Finally, Sol y Luna offers guests a cozy house made from local stone and decorated individually.

Every forty-three casitas surround itself with gardens full of Sacred Valley flora. Moreover, an outdoor terrace leads to each private sanctuary and into the spacious living space. It features terra cotta tile floors, Peruvian textiles, and some of the most popular Sacred Valley artifacts.

Food and Drink

The Killa Wasi restaurant is very formal. It serves Peruvian food, including steaks and guinea-pig dishes. They also offer cocktails. Wayra Restaurant serves delicious breakfasts with fruits, bread, pastries, coffee, and various dishes.

The hotel came about with the idea that memorable memories are made through our taste buds. Pedro Miguel Schiaffino is a leading innovator in Peruvian cuisine. The team learned from him. He also taught them how to cook traditional Andean dishes that use the bounty of Incan agrarian methods. As a result, they decided not to have their gardens or fields at the hotel but instead to train local farmers to grow potatoes, quinoa, herbs, and spices.

Sol Y Luna Experience

The Incas settled in the Sacred Valley. This is because of its beautiful landscape and benevolent climate. They considered it a mirror of their Milky Way. So come along and fly with the wind. Also, cycle along Andean terraces and kayak beneath snow-capped peaks. You can also explore the Inca mountain paths. Besides, discover colonial church ruins, remote villages, and secret heritage sites riding a quad bike or horseback.

The Sacred Valley has been part of the Andean civilization for over 500 years. It is also a treasure trove full of historical sites. There are also many delicious culinary delights in the Sacred Valley. That's for those who prefer to immerse themselves in culture through the kitchen.

Spa and Wellness

Quechua means "house of water," The spa is wrapped in local stones and stained glass. It offers holistic relaxation and invigorating excursions around the Sacred Valley. Moreover, internationally trained therapists offer rejuvenating hydrotherapy, facial, and massage treatments. These incorporate organic, local Andean plants.

The hotel also believes that the Earth has given them the garden's gift after 14 years of hard work in respecting the environment. The guests love this gift. They also love the 35 bird species that made Sol & Luna their home.
