Infinite skies, snowcapped peaks, and sapphire waters shimmering to the horizon will be your companions at Titilaka, a boutique luxury lodge on the otherworldly shores of Lake Titicaca, the cradle of Andean civilization and still home to some of Peru's most traditional communities. Off the beaten track, Titilaka is a gateway to an unspoiled part of Titicaca that offers a magical blend of spectacular mountain landscapes, Inca and pre-Inca ruins, ancient trails, and vibrant indigenous villages where entire families still hand-weave colorful folkloric textiles.
Titilaka means "puma tooth" in the Aymara language. The lodge takes its name from the local community with whom it shares a remote, private peninsula jutting spectacularly into the lake. Often described as "mystical," the surrounding area is home to numerous Aymara and Quechua communities for whom Spanish is a second (and sometimes even a third) language and where Andean creation myths centered around the lake remain part of local custom and everyday life.
The lodge's generous all-inclusive service covers its contemporary cuisine, created by Peruvian chef Maria Fe Garcia. More than a dozen complimentary, highly flexible itineraries, led by their bilingual expert local guides. These include visits to picturesque markets, weavers' homes, millenarian hikes, exclusive excursions to private parts of the picturesque Taquile and Amantani islands, mountain biking, birdwatching, road trips, visits to archaeological sites, and excursions into Bolivia.
Everyone who works at the lodge is committed to running it sustainably and responsibly - three-quarters of their staff hail from local villages, boosting their economic development. Titilaka also works hand in hand with a nonprofit that supports communities around the lake. They make a payment on behalf of every guest, and you will also have a chance to give back personally by making your own donation or visiting a local village.
The lodge has a modern, sophisticated feel with original décor featuring local artisans' craft products. All 18 rooms look out onto the pristine lake. The lodge also has its own boathouse, equipped with sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards for guests' exclusive use. Titilaka is the perfect base to explore the world's highest navigable lake and its renowned Andean surroundings in grand style.
