A family-owned exclusive 5-star hotel in the historic Black Forest in Germany is the Traube Tonbach. The Traube ('grape') has been in the Finkbeiner family for 8 generations since 1789.
Overlooking the Tonbach valley, the hotel sits comfortably amidst romantic pine forests in Baiersbronn, now in the Black Forest National Park.
The Finkbeiners are proud that 80% of their visitors faithfully return regularly. The hotel blends tradition and contemporary style in décor, accommodation, and gourmet meals.
The family has built up the hotel from its farmhouse origins, providing forest workers with a first-class hotel with a reputation for fine cuisine. Over the years, the hotel has been blessed with chefs and restaurants awarded Michelin stars in abundance.
Pioneering the modern style of using the finest locally sourced produce, the Traube kitchens have set a standard for innovative cuisine in the region. French haute cuisine is also part of the gourmet experience here but stamped with the hotel's signature.
The family takes pride in the resort's hospitality from the moment guests meet with the reception staff wearing forest green traditional costumes.
This luxurious lodging house aims to make guests feel at home in their retreat among the region's tall fir trees and pine-clad hills. The rooms are arranged over old parts of the house and newer buildings.
The décor is warm and comforting with fine wood paneling and doors, mauve, cream, and rust tones with thick wall-to-wall misty blue plush carpeting. Expansive wood-framed windows let in natural light and allow fine views into the forest.
Additional features upgrade the single and double rooms to Comfort, Premium, Superior, and Deluxe. In addition, all rooms have luxury bathrooms, TV, and in-room service.
These spacious, light-filled suites have the same tonal décor as the rooms with mauve, ivory, sapphire-blue, and gray furnishings in the main house. However, the Panorama suite in the Haus Kohlwald is the exception, with a sophisticated, sleek silver-gray design.
All suites have deeply upholstered wooden chairs, fine furniture, comfortable beds, balconies or terraces, and valley views from huge picture windows.
The Traube welcomes children and families with the family suites. They can hold 4 guests with additional bedding on request. Besides, the vast wooden clothes closets feature these spacious rooms. The hotel also has a bridal suite ideal for newlyweds to stay in this romantic scenery.
The crown of Traube's culinary art is the triple Michelin-starred Schwarzwaldstube restaurant serving French haute cuisine with regional dishes. An award-winning pastry chef and expert sommelier also add to the quality of this restaurant. Moreover, the elegant blue décor contrasts with clean white tablecloths and colorful modern wall art.
Furthermore, Kohlerstube already has one Michelin star, transforming seasonal dishes by the creative use of unique flavors. Additionally, the hotel has two other dining areas for every taste. A dress code is advised for Saturday nights in the main restaurants, making that evening a special event.
You can have lavish breakfast buffets in the Silberberg restaurant or order in-room service to enjoy the private balconies or verandas.
The hotel also allows a great time from 7.30 to 11.30 am to offer fresh farm egg dishes, artisan bread, and homemade jams. Delicate sweet and savory dishes also accompany morning coffee or traditional afternoon tea.
The bar at the Traube Tonbach hotel is a darkly robust place serving cocktails and spirits. In addition, a pool bar for swimmers and loungers enjoying the outdoor pool area on the property in warm weather.
These are some of the most popular features that the hotel has to offer. In addition, several swimming pools, indoor and out, fill up with fresh fountain water. Besides, no less than 5 different saunas and steam rooms are available to guests. A fully-equipped fitness center is also here.
Luxury face and body treatments include detox using marine products rich in minerals. Manicures and pedicures with optional nail art techniques are available in the ladies' spa. In addition, 3-night packages offer welcome gifts of flowers, fruit, and champagne, luxury spa treatments, use of the pools, and gourmet meals.
Concierge facilities can arrange shopping or cultural trips, organize hikes through the forest, and forage nature trails. Revitalizing exercise fitness routines with an experienced trainer is often held outdoors in the forest's fresh air.
Other events include sports, herbal, Scottish, and festive celebrations or cooking lessons with the experts. With so many weekly and monthly organized events, guests can request an activities calendar and book accommodation accordingly.
Various hiking weeks are on the calendar, including cookery specials, yoga weeks, international friends week, and dance weeks. Food and wine specials are available from time to time as well.
The hotel is 'kid-friendly with a range of great activities to enjoy with the family. Alternatively, trained staff will take care of them while parents take a break. You can leave children (above 3 years old) with staff at day-long activities in Kids' Court.
Workshops, kids' cookery classes, creative project games, and exceptional pool sessions are all there for the children to enjoy. Unique excursions, indoor football, and other sports are also organized weekly.
The hotel has free wi-fi and a flat-screen TV in the rooms. Guests can also book parking and garaging places.
The Hotel Traube Tonbach employs over 300 staff to care for its guests. However, it has come a long way from the farmhouse days, providing beer and sustenance to forest workers at the end of a day's hard work.
To date, the hotel strives to provide the highest level of hospitality and fine dining experiences in a relaxing atmosphere. The Traube Tonbach is nestled among the pine trees, promising rest and refreshment to travelers visiting to enjoy all the Black Forest beauty.
