People consider many factors when looking for a hotel to stay at. And one of the most important factors is location. If location is important to you as a traveler, then the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is perhaps the perfect hotel for you from which to feel an elegant touch of historic Europe. It guarantees a memorable and inspiring stay in one of the most picturesque cities in the world.
As grand as its name suggests, this hotel is in the heart of the World Heritage Site of Old Quebec. It is a stunning location from which to base yourself and explore this historical region of Canada.
Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, once visited by Queen Elizabeth II, was built at the request of the President of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Van Horne. This was towards the end of the 19th century in 1893 and was inspired by the chateaux of the Loire region. However, this French corner of Canada maintains many of its links with France in historic buildings.
Many of the historical sites of Quebec City are directly under the feet of the hotel or within a mile's walk. These include the Citadel, the Quartier Petit-Champlain, Dufferin Terrace, Saint Louis Fort, and the city's museum. The excellent Parc Montgomery is also with its stunning waterfall, just 8 miles away by a bus ride. The hotel itself sits on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. It provides attractive views of the St Lawrence River, the city, and the hotel itself to passers-by.
What stands out immediately in the first few minutes of visiting the hotel is the standard of the concierge services. They are as good and as knowledgeable as you would expect from any luxury hotel in the world. Facilities are also excellent for a city Centre hotel. There is a spa, gym & fitness center, and bike hire to explore the area. Additionally, there is a direct shuttle to the local ski resort of Mont Sainte-Anne.
Furthermore, there is ample car parking for guests and laundry facilities as standard, and a business center. Access for guests with disabilities is good, and the pool is easily accessible. The hotel is also strongly family-friendly, with a unique pool and free eating for under 5s. There are even rollaway cots and baby cots available for a small charge.
There is bound to be something for everyone with 610 guestrooms and suites, immense size, and range for a city center hotel. From large families and gatherings right down to individual travelers.
Rooms and suites combine classic and modern styling with a range of stylish, attractive colors. Additionally, standards across all rooms are televisions with cable and pay films, video games, and consoles. A range of pillows is also available. Refreshments are available through Keurig coffee makers, a mini-bar with a range of snacks, and kettles.
Furthermore, the bathrooms are bright and clean, although some are on the small side. Plus, they all are supplied with products from Le Labo. Finally, as with many Fairmont hotels, the Fairmont Gold private concierge floor experience offers something unique. That is, to guests who want and are willing to pay for the extra luxury and care that the service provides.
The Gold level rooms on the higher floors (14th-18th) include free Wi-Fi and access to an executive lounge. There is also an honesty bar and breakfast as part of the Fairmont Gold package.
Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac offers a small but excellent range of eating and drinking on-site options. In addition, the restaurants offer a fantastic view of the river throughout the year. This enables guests' comfort, whether in spring, summer, autumn, or winter, while enjoying great food and drink.
The restaurants are often popular. Therefore, it may be wise to book your restaurant visits in advance while booking your room. The excellent multi-room Champlain Restaurant is at the very top, although occasionally pricey. It features excellent Québéquoise cuisine paired with an impressive wine list.
The 1608 Wine and Cheese Bar provides a wide range of cocktails, wines, and aged cheeses in an attractive dark wood setting for a more relaxed and traditional vibe. Moreover, Bistro Le Sam and the Atrium Bar offer more innovative and experimental fare. Besides, they also provide weekly live music evenings from 6 pm.
Finally, the Dufferin provides an outstanding breakfast buffet. It has a range of French and continental-inspired pastry and bagel options, and all are made to order.
As well to the two pools, the hotel has a good spa and fitness center available for guests. The Moment Spa is available from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm most days. Additionally, it opens late until 6.00 pm from Thursday to Saturday. It offers guests a wide range of facial, massage, and other treatment services.
Tandem massage rooms are also available for couples on a romantic getaway. The spa includes a whirlpool bath, steam rooms, and manicure/pedicure rooms. Furthermore, you can book spa services during your stay or in advance. This is to ensure you get access to the required services and treatments.
A range of attractive locations is available in the hotel for meetings and events. The picturesque nature of the building and its lovely place makes it particularly suitable for weddings. There are five main event spaces, many of which are adorned with chandeliers. These spaces include the Grand Ballroom, which provides a perfect backdrop to that special day or event. There are also several smaller rooms available. The smallest room, the Vaudreuil room, can hold 12 people, whereas the Grand Ballroom can comfortably hold up to 700 people.
With an illustrious history and located in the heart of Old Québec City, the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac provides a unique and stunning location for any discerning traveler or guest. Enjoy a range of amenities, stylish rooms, and excellent dining as a part of your stay in this beautiful part of Canada.
